### Summary
**About the Position:**This position is in the Excepted Service without time limitation and may not be filled by Competitive Appointment. Service in this position is fully creditable toward Civil Service Retirement. Any selected applicant who is in the Competitive Service will be taken out of the competitive service when he/she occupies this position and will compete only with other excepted status employees in the event of Reduction in Force. He or she will, however, remain eligible for reinstatement in the competitive service.

### Responsibilities
* Serves as an attorney on the depot legal staff and as a legal advisor and counselor to the Depot Commander and key personnel on legal issues that may arise.
* Provide litigation in forums such as state/Federal court, arbitration, Merit Systems Protection Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Alabama Department of Environmental Management, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
* The primary duties and responsibilities of this position requires expertise in the areas of litigation, employment law, fiscal law, environmental law and public-private partnering matters.
* The incumbent will be required to perform extremely complex and difficult factual, policy, and legal issues independently and with minimal supervision.
* Advise and assist depot personnel on questions of substantive and remedial law or administrative policy involved in the operations of the depot and in its contacts with industry, private and professional associations, state, and local.
* Provide advisory services on environmental, safety, and administrative laws. Answer questions on common law, criminal law, and civil law, including questions which are covered by interpretation of the Comptroller General or other legal authority.
* Renders decisions, based on legal theory and doctrine when no legal precedents exist, usually in cases dealing with contracts and claims.
* Renders decisions for depot policy for the conduct of litigation on behalf of the depot by the Department of Justice, settlement of claims against the government brought by contractors, private citizens, awarding and enforcement of contracts.
* Requires expertise in such diverse fields of law as contract law, environmental law, personnel management, labor relations (to include EEO), State and Federal criminal law, legal assistance, claims, ethics, Freedom of Information Act, and agency law.

* **EDUCATON:** An applicant must have completed a full course of study in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) and have a professional law degree (LLB or JD).
* **BAR MEMBERSHIP:** An applicant must currently be a member in good standing of the bar of a State or Territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
* **EXPERIENCE:**Applicant must have two or more years of professional legal experienced, acquired after being admitted to the bar commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Graduation from an ABA-Accredited Law School in the 25% of the class or an advanced law degree such as an LLM will be recognizes as a substitute for one (1) year of the required professional legal experience.
